The Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, Thailand First Flora Expo in Chiang Mai


Have you ever visited The Royal Flora Ratchaphruek in Chiang Mai? It was a world class flower festival held during November 1, 2006, to January 31, 2007, which was one of the grand celebrations hosted by the Royal Thai Government in honor of H.M King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 60th anniversary or the "Diamond Jubilee of Accession to the Throne" together with His Majesty's 80th birthday in January of 2007 at that time.

The Expo located in the area of 80 hectares at the Royal Agricultural Research Center, Mae Hia sub-district, Mueang district, Chiang Mai. It had presented 30 international
gardens such as Netherland, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, China, Phutan, Turkey, Indonesia, Laos, Saudi Arabia, etc. There are more than 2.5 million plants of 2,200 species of tropical plants, flowers, trees, exotic fruits, vegetables and herbs are presented in this exhibition.




The highlights attract tourists:

Gardens for the king
There were two features in this zone: one was International gardens, which were displayed with the unique species of plants and flora from 30 participating nations in the area of 21,000 square meters; the other was Corporate
Gardens, which were presented by Thai state enterprises, and domestic and international corporations; covered 27,475 square meters. Visitors not only are enjoyable but also gain educational experience and admire the more than 80 agricultural theories by His Majesty the King.

Hor kham Royal Pavilion
Featured ancient Lanna architecture; inside, visitors could see pictures of King Bhumibol's works and his dedication.

The Tropical Garden
Cover 100,000-square-meter, where displayed a collection of the very best Thai diversity of tropical horticulture: fruit varieties, plants, flowers, herbs, and rare plants.

The Royal Plaza
Fun activities, amenities, and service available here. Within the courtyard, visitors could enjoy sample Thai food, buy products from the Royal Projects and local made such as handicrafts, souvenirs, and pretty paper umbrellas.

Cultural Shows
Displayed 45 cultural shows, including traditional music and dance from various regions throughout Thailand. What's more, cultural performances from other nations also be presented.

Bug World
Displayed the kingdom of insects, covered 400 square meters. The site hosted by the public and private sectors of the Department of Agriculture to provide knowledge about insects lives.

The exhibition drew 20,000 visitors a day, and exceeding 100,000 in the crowded day. One day is not enough for visiting a whole area on foot, but most people chose to walk around the exhibition! They preferred to admire real atmosphere of the exhibition while gaining new experience by themselves. Some chose to take a shuttle cable to avoid weariness. They prefer to look around the exhibition and would drop only at the zone they were interested in.

Now The Royal Flora Ratchaphruek is still opened to welcome visitors...If you have a chance to visit Chiang Mai, should not miss it!
